Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning “union”, and therefore yoga is a perfect antidote to our divided world. Recognizing the popularity and health benefits of Yoga, on the 11th of December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. This year’s theme for Yoga Day is Climate Change and it will take a unified global effort of individuals with healthy bodies, clear minds and open-hearts to avert our planetary crisis. Sanskrit is an ancient Indo-Aryan language that influenced cultures in Asia and Europe, and OM is the root syllable from which the language originated. Unify.org is hosting a Facebook Live webcast of a globally synchronized OM to honor Yoga Day and inviting people to join for 15 minutes on June 21 at 10:30 AM PDT wherever they are on the planet.

“Om or Aum of the Vedas became the sacred word Hum of the Tibetans, Amin of the Moslems, and Amen of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Jews, and Christians.” -Paramahansa Yogananda

As a cofounder of Unify I have written numerous articles over the years about research that supports the notion of globally synchronized meditation including: Science Validates Collective Intention, Global Brain, and A Moment Shared Around the World. Currently the Global Coherence Initiative is leading the field in clinical research that validates the importance of this work and the ways that it influences collective consciousness. Rollin McCraty, PhD, Annette Deyhle, PhD, and Doc Childre authored a profound research paper called The Global Coherence Initiative: Creating a Coherent Planetary Standing Wave which I highly recommend, you can read an excerpt below:

The convergence of several independent lines of evidence provides strong support for the existence of a global information field that connects all living systems and consciousness. Every cell in our bodies is bathed in an external and internal environment of fluctuating invisible magnetic forces that can affect virtually every cell and circuit in biological systems. Therefore, it should not be surprising that numerous physiological rhythms in humans and global collective behaviors are not only synchronized with solar and geomagnetic activity, but disruptions in these fields can create adverse effects on human health and behavior.

The most likely mechanism for explaining how solar and geomagnetic influences affect human health and behavior are a coupling between the human nervous system and resonating geomagnetic frequencies, called Schumann resonances, which occur in the earth-ionosphere resonant cavity and Alfvén waves. It is well established that these resonant frequencies directly overlap with those of the human brain and cardiovascular system. If all living systems are indeed interconnected and communicate with each other via biological, electromagnetic, and nonlocal fields, it stands to reason that humans can work together in a co-creative relationship to consciously increase the coherence in the global field environment, which in turn distributes this information to all living systems within the field.

Vibration and Frequency have a widely known influence on physical form as well as consciousness. Soldiers are told to break stride when marching across a bridge because marching in unison amplifies the vibrations and can literally make a bridge collapse! The same philosophy can be applied to the entrainment and consciousness-altering euphoria that happens when large groups of people dance together at a music concert. In short we have the ability to increase energy when we apply ourselves collectively to a shared intention such as Climate Change. Just like language and form, it all starts with vibration!

A Unified Effort is what it will take. There will be special appearances by Deva Premal, Miten, Manose, Krishna Das, Pujya Swamiji, Sadhviji, Prince Ea, Byron Katie, Shiva Rea, and MC Yogi. Let’s amplify the vibration of love and healing for eachother and the planet with a global OM! On Friday, June 21, at 10:30 AM PDT you can watch live via Unify on Facebook (click here for timezone converter to see the corresponding time in your local region). You can tweet, or post on Instagram using #globalOM or you can just sit in your favorite place with no electronic devices at that time and join from wherever you are. Everyone, everywhere, together, unifying for a better world. This is our doorway to a more loving, collaborative, healthy future. Please tell your friends!
